Srinagar (KNO) : February 23: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani could not attend the Friday congregational prayers due to his continuous house arrest, a spokesperson said. Spokesman on Friday lashed out at state police and authorities for barring Huriyat chairman from offering congregational prayers and said that “Geelani and other resistance leaders are barred from performing religious obligations which is interference in religious matters and clear violation of UN charter wherein performing religious obligations have been recognized as fundamental right. Syed Ali Geelani is a leader of international stature, scholar, a statesman and a writer par excellence, said spokesman and added that there is no constitutional and moral justification to curb his peaceful political activities and stop him from performing religious obligations.
“Geelani who continues to be under house detention for past eight years, said spokesman and added that authorities in Delhi are scared of his public stature. Lamenting at administration, spokesman said that his residence has been turned into a sub-jail and continuous detention is taking heavy toll on his health, statement added. Hurriyat conference appealed Human rights organizations and international community for their cognizance and called to take notice of this lawlessness, human rights violations and continuous house arrest of Syed Ali Geelani (KNO)
